Reflections

They brought oil as well as their lamps

We are each the light of God;
a light given with the candle given to our parents in baptism,
the light of faith to guide our steps in the way of Jesus,
to enlighten our minds in the truth of Jesus,
to nourish our love with the life of Jesus.

You are light,
you are the lamp of God,
and this light is the warmth of God.

And the power of the lamp is the love of God.

In the Eucharist our light is brightened,
and the lamp is renewed,
as a waterfall generates electricity
as love generates new life.

They brought oil as well as their lamps.

Take time to refresh your spirit,
take time for prayer,
take time for Eucharist,
take time for wonder,
be surprised by God
in the November sunrise,
in the Christmas anticipation,
in the evening’s winter peace,
and your light glows new again.

They brought oil as well as their lamps.
